There are a few certainties in life … death and taxes are the two most often cited, but how about that as long as there is a Sims franchise, EA/Maxis will pump out expansions every couple of months.

Yep, it’s time once again and with Sims 2 Apartment Life, the supernatural gets a shot in the arm with the introduction of witchcraft. The element of witchcraft in the game is part of the new idea that Sims don’t have to own their own homes, but rather can rent. Of course there are rules for renting, like noise levels and making the rent on a timely basis, but the apartment element is surprisingly akin to the homeowners element. You will have visitors and develop social groups.

Part of the vampire element introduced several expansions ago allowed Sims to meet vampires and if they got friendly enough, that vampire might bite them and they would become a vampire. Werewolves got a similar treatment. Well, now it is time to give witchcraft a try. Sims can meet witches or warlocks and befriend them. If all goes well, they may be allowed to learn either the Ways of Light or the Path of Darkness.

When you head down that road, you get a spellbook and cauldron. The spellbook contains all your Sim will learn and the spells fall into three categories – good, neutral and evil. Good spells might include healing sick Sims, neutral allows for teleportation and evil includes starting fires and breaking up relationships.

And because there are witches, that means foregoing mechanical conveyances and riding on the broomstick.

The expansion includes a few new animations available in the radial menu (when at the right place) like a dance kiss, brushing teeth, washing the Sim’s face and jumping rope. A few new objects also enter the scene, like adding closet doors to a small room to create a walk-in closet, and there are also vending machines, a new spiral staircase, ceiling tiles for rooms, a new bed and bookcase and a silent ringer mode for phones.

Because some Sims do not make a lot of money, you can advertise for (and get) a roommate. The roommates are NPCs, and that means they operate under an independent AI. Sometimes the actions seem to make little sense, but generally they can work out fairly well.

As expansions go, Apartment Life adds some nice variety to the series. It does not add anything new in terms of the graphics engine but does bring in some nicer elements to the gameplay. The sound changes little.

Maxis (and EA) must be stretching it a bit to maintain viable content for the Sims 2 series – especially with Sims 3 releasing in 2009. But Apartment Life is a bit more robust than Free Time was in terms of behavioral modifications and that makes it a bit more fun.

Hot Dog King: A Fast Food Empire

In Hot Dog King, you start a new game in one of three modes: Campaign, Single City and education. As shallow as the exterior of this game is, I recommend the training to be your first stop. After all, this is actually a marketing game.

To begin the campaign mode by selecting the feeling of the game you want to play. You are asked whether you should play a Personnel, fashionable, or commercial style of the game. Once you’ve found the focus of the game, and what degree of difficulty, they ask by what it is you want to start dominance of the world’s snack stand the market. You can choose from Seattle, L.A. or NYC. Each city is divided into different districts. Choose your district wise and start small. Make money and respect that you build more stores and, hopefully, satisfied customers. I want to talk about it further down. It is a collection of little mini-game that will come up during the course of the game. These initially felt out of place for me, but later they were probably a welcome break from monotonous.

In the Single City Mode, you have many opportunities to keep you busy. There are five different and new ways to play the game. In the Open-game you play before the reputation bottom out. In the D-Day, you have a week to get as far as you can. Overleve the week, and it’s on to the next. How long can you keep up the pace? In the Vigilante mode, can restore your father’s lost reputation before it is too late. Avoid corporate buy-out of the Invasion mode that rival companies move into your area. Last but not least, is Attrition mode. It’s Survival of the fittest as you go toe to toe with a rival competitor, which is even with you from the beginning.

Sex sells, and you use it to sell in this game. Hire female employees who want to get customers. Put these girls in little or no clothes, and sell even more. I would have to say if you had to stare at an avatar for long periods of time, much as Lara Croft, so would you want to have the character to be easy to watch. While Mrs. Croft is easy on the eye, she isn not use the body to sell. She isn not receive a bonus statistics for the less she wears. Here you can reap the benefits of a small booklet counts.

Hospital Tycoon

If you are going to rip off a game, this is a good idea to make sure that you choose one that is both current and success. Hence, it is difficult to understand what DR Studios thought when she decided to redo essentially 1997 Item bomb Hospital. The British developer of the Hospital Tycoon is like a reheated version of Bullfrog former hospital Sim, which is a cheap copy of the theme park. Predictability, this copy of a copy of a copy is bland and derivative instruments, with only a halfhearted attempt to establish a Sims-style environment mean that apart from all other Shovelware there with the magnate crowded word in their titles.

Curiously, the biggest difference between Theme Hospital and the Hospital Tycoon is that it has a more developed theme. Given that the decade-old Bullfrog Thursday was a god right game, the game’s history mode falls here on a soap opera with all the anxieties and double cheese as a TV show ER or after – noon, Santa shop elsewhere. In addition to the tasks tycoon game, you need to follow getaway doc heartthrob Rick Steele and the rest of the staff at the hospital Sapphire Beach. Everything here is certainly more fantasy than reality. The glass walls of the hospital looks more like the famous Sydney Opera usual pile of bricks through the healing rooms in most metropolitan areas these days. Steele and a daughter nurse appears on posters throughout the investigation. And patients complain kooky names of diseases that mummifried and lightbulbia. It is probably better than having to face budget cuts, fat nurses, wonderful people and in case of emergency or the flesh-eating disease goiters bulky, but is simply too tailored for children here.

DR Studios try to make progress in this soap-Sims feel like characters who speak in simlish illegible, personality traits, and establish links or hatred for each other teams. Like The Sims, you take control of these yobs and force them to commit acts on each other, the press and intimidate, or social events that have shaken hands and pests, but is rarely a point of doing so. The world is mostly on what is best left outside of staff is running on autopilot and interact, but they want. This leads to different performances on the problems of seeing. Why are popular Doc Buffman do with the nurse Dakota hated? Why is a professor and a nurse Brahms Daisy ridicule tickle the struggle in the room? You never know. Or care, because these actions have little impact on their goals are compatible with the proven cure diseases such as the creation of specific equipment, and beautify the corridors of the hospital with fountains, statues, etc. .
